About the course
This certification course gives participants the knowledge and skills to supervise routine and simple lifting operations safely. It covers the key legislation, industry standards and the procedures an organisation uses to control lifting.
Participants learn lifting terminology, roles and responsibilities, and how to select crane capacity. The course explains crane tipping, the role of outriggers, how to read load charts and range diagrams, and how to assess the operating area, including set-up near excavations.
Technical topics include parts of line, centre of gravity, sling angles (uniform load method) and cribbage size calculations. Practical sessions cover pre-use inspection of slings, shackles and chains and the use of checklists.
